Alice and I took Jack, Ollie and Luke to the beach on Monday. Of course we were expecting Jack and Ollie to have a ball but when packing spare clothes I'd forgotten Luke's enthusiasm for the beach. On reaching the waterside however, Luke went straight for the water and I had to quickly tear all his clothes off before he embraced the joys of sand and water. Luke likes to crawl in the water but occasionally gets a bit upset by the waves and is partial to eating a bit of sand. He's a big fan of splashing in the bathtub too

I went to get Jack off the fort at playcentre today and Jack told he was going to jump so I caught him as he leapt off the steps into my arms. As I cuddled him to me he said "what would I do without you"

Unlike Jack Luke has decided to make the traditional entrance into the world of verbal communication. He now uses the mummy grumble (a series of muh muh sounds as he crawls around after me) and the Daddy gurgle ( a delighted da-da-da sound he makes when Richard is playing with him).

On finding one of those 'fairies' with a seed on it I told Jack to pull the seed out and make a widh. He surprised me by not only understanding the concept but immediately declaring a wish. Unfortunately I haven't figured out how to make it come true. Here's what he said

"I wish for a friendly dinosaur. I want it to come and play with me. In my room"

Today is the first day Luke seems to have been sucessully moving forward. It's a tummy wriggle approach which is not quite the all-fours crawl he had put so much effort into but he seems very pleased with himself and I can see that the mixed joys of a mobile baby have arrived.
